What we won't be discussing
These items are no less important than what we will discuss but only so much could be covered in our talk. We have restricted ourselves to those matters which either have not yet been covered to date or we felt were the most critical.
- Server Rooms
- Efficient and effective machine0room design is critical to success in managing services. This was covered excellently by Dónal Cuunningham, see previous SAGE-IE talk which covered this topic.
- Monitoring Services
- Service Monitoring is an absolute neccessity among service providers, our colleague Ann Harding covered this aspect in her previous talk at SAGE-IE.
- Desktops
- We didn't have to worry about deploying these though the tools and methods we discuss are a good starting point.
- Helpdesk & Customer
- Yes, these are part of Operating Systems management, but are outside the scope of our discussion.
- Sepecific Services
- Limoncelli & Hogan provide lots of good material in this area but too much to go into here.
