What is a System Administrator?
System Administrators are technical professionals responsible
for the support, maintenance and development of computer systems.
System Administrators typically install new hardware and software,
as well as troubleshooting existing systems.
They generally taking care of the computers which are now largely
responsible for keeping many businesses afloat. In some ways, everybody
who uses a computer is a system administrator - keeping an eye on the
disc space they have, rebooting their PC when problems occur, and storing
backups of important files on floppy disc in case of disaster.
Professional system administrators, however, often look after large
numbers of computers and networks - they are the people who keep the
systems running, repair faulty discs, install and debug new software,
upgrade existing systems, and generally take care of the computing
resources needed for their users to perform their tasks effectively.
A shorter definition is "A system administrator is one who
manages computers not solely for his or her own use".
